Ford, GM/Chevy, Dodge Snow Plow High Output Alternators

Made with top quality components since 1985

A snowplow alternator is a vital piece of equipment for any snowplow owner. It provides the power needed to run the snowplow's electrical accessories, such as lights, heaters, and winches.

In cold weather, snowplows can put a significant demand on a vehicle's electrical system. The alternator helps to ensure that the battery stays charged and that the snowplow can start and run smoothly.

There are a number of different snowplow alternators available, so it is important to choose one that is right for your needs. When choosing a snowplow alternator, there are a few factors to consider:

  • The size of your snowplow
  • The amount of snowfall in your area
  • Your budget

Once you have considered these factors, you can start to narrow down your choices. There are a number of different brands of snowplow alternators available, so you should be able to find one that fits your needs and your budget.

By choosing the right snowplow alternator, you can help to ensure that your snowplow will start and run smoothly, even in the coldest weather.

General Motors and Chevy Vehicles

10Si and 12Si Series Alternators (1969-1987)

10Si and 12Si Series Alternators (1969-1987)

If you own a snowplow, you know that it can put a significant demand on your vehicle's electrical system. If you have an older snowplow, it may be equipped with a 10Si or 12Si series alternator. These alternators are not very good at producing idle output, which can lead to problems when using a snowplow.

The 10Si series alternator has a 6 1/2" hole-to-hole spread, one two-inch thick mount and one thin mount. The 12Si series alternator has the same mounting specs. Both alternators are internally regulated, which means they do not require a separate voltage regulator.

However, both alternators are not very good at producing idle output. This is because they have a small stator and a small field coil. When you use a snowplow, the alternator has to work harder to keep the battery charged. This can lead to the alternator overheating and failing.

If you have a snowplow with a 10Si or 12Si series alternator, we recommend replacing it with a larger alternator. The CS144 series alternator is a good choice. It has a larger stator and a larger field coil, which allows it to produce more idle output. The CS144 series alternator also has the same mounting specs as the 10Si and 12Si series alternators.

Replacing your snowplow's alternator is a relatively easy task. You can do it yourself with basic tools. By replacing your alternator, you can help to ensure that your snowplow will start and run reliably, even when you are using it in cold weather.

CS130 and CS144 Alternators for Snowplows

If you use a Chevrolet or General Motors vehicle as a snowplow, you know that it can put a significant demand on your vehicle's electrical system. The alternator is responsible for keeping the battery charged, and when you use a snowplow, the alternator has to work harder to keep up with the demand.

The CS130 and CS144 series alternators are the most common alternators for Chevrolet and General Motors vehicles from 1987 to 1995. The CS130 series alternator is smaller than the CS144 series alternator, and it does not produce as much power at idle. The CS144 series alternator is a better choice for snowplows, as it produces more power at idle and has a better cooling system.

CS130 Series Alternators

The CS130 series alternator is the most common alternator for Chevrolet and General Motors vehicles from 1987 to 1995. It is a small alternator, only 130mm in diameter, and it does not produce as much power at idle. This can be a problem when using a snowplow, as the snowplow can put a significant demand on the electrical system.

The CS130 series alternator is also plagued with cooling issues. The rear bearing and voltage regulator are prone to failure, which can lead to the alternator overheating and failing.

CS144 Series Alternators

The CS144 series alternator is a better choice for snowplows than the CS130 series alternator. It is a larger alternator, with a 144mm stator diameter, and it produces more power at idle. This makes it better able to handle the increased demand placed on the electrical system by a snowplow.

The CS144 series alternator also has a better cooling system than the CS130 series alternator. This helps to prevent the rear bearing and voltage regulator from overheating and failing.

CS130D and AD244 Series Alternators for GM and Chevy Snowplows (1996-Present)

After 1996, most Chevy and GM trucks used CS130D, AD244, or CS144 series alternators. The mounting remained the same throughout these years, with the only differences being the thickness of the alternator from behind the pulley to the rear of the case, as well as voltage regulators.

CS130D Series Alternators

The CS130D series alternator has the same voltage regulator and plug as both the AD237 and AD244 series alternators. This 4-pin plug can also be converted to the plug used on the CS144 with the help of our W1206 wiring harness conversion plug.

AD244 Series Alternators

The AD244 series alternator has a thicker stator than the CS130D series alternator, which improves idle output.

Ford Alternators for Snowplows

If you use a Ford vehicle as a snowplow, you know that it can put a significant demand on your vehicle's electrical system. The alternator is responsible for keeping the battery charged, and when you use a snowplow, the alternator has to work harder to keep up with the demand.

There are a number of different alternators available for Ford vehicles. The most common alternators for these vehicles are the 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, and 6G series alternators.

1G and 2G Series Alternators

The 1G and 2G series alternators are the oldest alternators available for Ford vehicles. They are externally regulated and not very powerful. The 2G series alternator has a power plug, which cannot handle high power. The 2G power plug can become a fire hazard at over 150 amps. We recommend replacing the 1G and 2G series with the 3G series heavy duty alternator.

3G Series Alternators

The 3G series alternator is the most common alternator available for Ford vehicles. It is internally regulated and more powerful than the 1G and 2G series alternators. We offer top quality, large case 3G series alternators.

4G Series Alternators

The 4G series alternator is not as common as the 3G series alternator. It is, however, popular on the diesel engine with dual alternator option. It also existed for a while on the Lightning Series F-Series trucks. We recommend replacing the 4G with another 4G, which we upgrade using the Quicktifier Dual or Triple Rectifier Kit. Adding diodes to the bridge rectifier circuit help balance the load, decreasing heat and thermal cutoff.

6G Series Alternators

The 6G series alternator is the newest alternator available for Ford vehicles. It is a small case 110 amp alternator that was used on the majority of Ford trucks from 1999 till present.
