From about 1994 until 1997, the Ford F-Series diesels used the 3G series alternator and it was available in both small and large case options. After 1999, they switched the F-Series diesels to the Super Duty lineup of F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 models. With this model change, they also made the small case 6G the only alternator option, though there was a dual alternator option that either paired up two small case 6Gs or a 6G and a 4G. Our large case alternator, mounting type 8253M, replaces these small case alternators and gives you:

More Power at Idle

The larger diameter stator and overall increased mass allows the alternator to generator more power at slower speeds. Where a small case alternator only starts puting out extra power at near highway speeds, our large case units put out as much as 60% rated output at 650 RPM idle.

Extra Durability

The larger mass of the unit gives it increased heat dissipation and absorption. Basically, it takes more energy to heat up the larger unit. Combine this with an extra heavy duty Bridge Rectifier with Copper Diodes and Aluminum Heatsink and you have an extremely durable alternator.
