External Voltage Regulator By-Pass Kit and Field Replacement Module for 1988 & up Chrysler Corporation Vehicles. Dodge Chrysler, Jeep since 91
Since 1987 for Dodge and Chrysler vehicles and since 1991 for Jeep Family vehicles have alternators that are controlled by the Alternator Voltage Regulator Control Module inside the vehicle ECU (computer).
The computer is often called the ECC, ECM, EEC, or PCM. Often the alternator voltage regulator, or field control module, in the computer will fail, leaving you with a dead charging system situation where your alternator doesn't work, yet your engine runs just fine. To get your alternator working your entire computer would need to be replaced.
In a bind?, to get your alternator working you can bypass the internal Alternator Voltage Regulator Control inside the computer by using our External Voltage Regulator Conversion kit.

NOTE: The FRM Module (gold color) is inserted beteen the two wires that go back to the vehicle's computer, which you remove from the alternator to install the external voltage regulator kit. Your vehicles' computer may be broken in such a way the FRM Module will not put out the check engine light in about 10 to 20% of the cases, but the external voltage regulator kit will work 100% of the time as long as your alternator is working.
The FRM module does NOT need to be grounded, where as, the metal case of the voltage regulator must have a good ground between the alternator, voltage regulator and battery. The FRM module may get hot so don't wrap it up with tape.

Just as the title says: Product works once set properly, manufacturer could be more helpful.
Regulator was not set properly; so, I called QuickStart Alternators (the manufacturer) for help. The guy was abrasive to say the least. He told me that I had installed it incorrectly before telling me that "if I could not figure it out, then maybe this was just something that I could not do." Mind you, I had just called to ask about testing the regulator because I knew that it had to be off. After saying his piece about how "I test every regulator before it leaves and they are all working and good so you had to have wired it incorrectly blah, blah, blah" he finally directed me to his YouTube channel (AlternatorMan) and a specific video that reviewed regulator testing. After following the procedures for testing the regulator I called him back and he agreed that it was set to high (surprise). Luckily, the regulator is no different than the one that you would find at an O'Reillys, AutoZone, Advanced Auto, etc.; so, it is straightforward in adjusting.
Once you get it set, it does exactly what it is supposed to do. I really purchased this kit due to the convenience of having the wiring harness with the ignition on wire and feeder alternator wire neatly spliced into each other in a nice wire tubing since I thought that would look more "OEM" under the hood. If you want the harness, then you are ahead to just by this kit; but, do not call the manufacturer unless you want to get off the phone irritated.
Excellent kit. Very easy to install and so far, working perfectly. A great way to fix an annoying Dodge problem without shelling out $650 for a new computer.
Works flawless, thank you for producing a quality product.!!
Came on time and most importantly I have a fully operational chargung system again!
Installed on my 1996 2nd Gen Dodge diesel when the signal from pcm went out. Works great! Rest of truck functioning just fine.
